Seat Towel

Irregular weave. Exceptional feel. Made in Osaka.

£22.68

Shinto have been making exceptional textiles in Osaka for over a century. This refined seat towel is made using their unique 2.5-ply gauze weave; a quietly ingenious construction.

Twenty-count cotton thread is woven using a method that halves the middle layer of a standard triple-ply gauze. The result is a cloth that refuses the usual trade-offs. Fluffy without bulk. Absorbent without heaviness. Quick-drying without thinness. The irregular weave gives it a softness that is immediately apparent and a texture that is entirely its own.

After weaving, each towel undergoes atozarashi - Shinto's post-weave refining process that removes any remaining starch, oils and impurities from the fibre, unlocking the cotton's full natural absorbency.

The colour runs through the vertical and horizontal threads at subtly different tones, creating a quiet three-dimensional quality that reveals itself in different lights.
