Woven on a traditional shuttle loom in Osaka, the Shinto Inner Pile towel is made using a slow, exacting process that modern production long ago abandoned. The result is a simply luxurious towel, with over a century of Japanese textile knowledge applied with quiet precision. Two outer layers of fine gauze hold a dense inner layer of cotton pile between them. The gauze is soft against the skin, creating fullness without heaviness and exceptionally absorbent towel that reveals itself through use. After weaving, each towel undergoes atozarashi - a post-weave refining process in which the cloth is washed to remove any remaining starch, oils and impurities from the fibres. It is this step that unlocks the cotton's natural absorbency and creates the characteristic texture Shinto is known for. Perfect for an added layer of softness between you and the sauna bench, or for drying off after a cold plunge.
